Intro

CIRCUMCISION -The Defeat of the Flesh(v. 11).

 

A spiritual circumcision.

 

Removed the body of the flesh.Cf. Jer. 4:4

 

 

BAPTISM -The Defeat of Spiritual Death(vv. 12-13).
Buried with Him in baptism (cf. also Rom. 6:4).
Raised up with Him(v. 12-13a-b).

 

1) Dead in transgressions.

 

2) Made alive together with Christ. We walk in newness of life.

Through faith (v. 12).
This analogy supports immersion as the best mode.
No support for infant baptism.

 

 

III. CANCELED DEBT – The Defeat of Sin (vv. 13c-14).

Forgiven all our transgressions (v. 13c).
Hostile decrees canceled by nailing it to the cross (v. 14).

RULERS DISARMED -The Defeat of Satan(v. 15).
Disarmed demonic powers.
