A. THE SORROW OF THE DISCIPLES (John 16:5-6).

1) Christ is going to the Father (John 16:5).

2) The disciples are filled with sorrow (John 16:6).

B. THE MINISTRY OF THE HELPER (John 16:7-11).

1) The gift of the Spirit is to their advantage (John 16:7).

2) The convicting ministry of the Spirit.

a) “convict the world” (John 16:8) –

b) concerning sin (John 16:9).

c) concerning righteousness (John 16:10).

(1) Their defective righteousness

(2) Christ’s perfect righteousness.
