Intro
A. THE 7TH COMMANDMENT (Matthew 5:27-28).
- The implied oral law interpretation of the 7th commandment (Matthew 5:27).
- Jesus’ interpretation of the 7th commandment (Matthew 5:28).
a. “Lust” = adultery in the heart. Cf. the 10th commandment
b. The present tense “looks” indicates a gazing look with sexual intent.
- The problem of lust today.
B. THE REMEDY FOR THE SIN (Matthew 5:29-30).
- Understand the danger.
- Take immediate action.
a. Remove your right eye or right hand.
b. Cast it from you.
- The wisdom principle: It is better to lose a little than to lose everything.
C. PRACTICAL APPLICATION
- Always be on the alert for sin. Proverbs 4:23; 1 Peter 5:8.
- Guard what you look at. Psalms 101:3; 119:37; Job 31:1
- Remove the source of temptation. Proverbs 5-7; Genesis 39:12; Acts 19:19.
- Say NO to sin. 1 Peter 2:11; 2 Corinthians 10:4-5
- Remember your new condition. Romans 6:11; Galatians 5:24
- Remember your Helper. Romans 8:13; Galatians 5:16
- When you fail, repent of your sin, pray for more grace and start over with #1.
