Persevering Prayer

Intro

A. PRAYER PROMISE:  ASK AND RECEIVE (Matthew 7:7-8).

1. Promise (Matthew 7:7-8).

  a. Command (Matthew 7:7).  

  b.  Statement (Matthew 7:8).  

2. Perseverance – present imperative.  

3. Qualifications:  John  14:14; 15:7; Mark 11:24; Ephesians 6:18; James 4:3; 1 John 3:22; 5:14-15.

 B. ILLUSTRATIONS (Matthew 7:9-10).

1. Son asks father for a loaf will not get a stone.  

2. Son asks father for a fish will not get a snake.  

C. COMPARISON (Matthew 7:11).  

1. Men are evil, God is good.  

2. If evil men give good gifts to their children, how much more will our Father in  heaven.  

3. Objection: but so often I don’t get what I ask for.

  a. God knows what is best for us.  

  b. We often do not know what we really need.
