Intro

A. THEOLOGICAL OBSERVATIONS.

1. Showing mercy does not earn mercy.   

2. True faith produces mercy.    

B. THE MEANING OF MERCY.

1. Mercy and grace.        

2. Mercy is compassion toward those in need.     Matthew 9:27; 15:22; 17:15; Lk. 17:13

3. Mercy embodies a forgiving spirit.    Lk. 18:13

4. World’s view of mercy.

5. The opposite of mercy is cruelty.  Prov. 12:10; 11:17

6. The objects of mercy.  Gal. 6:10

 

C. EXAMPLES OF MERCY.

1. POSITIVE.  Good Samaritan.   Lk. 10:30-37.

2. NEGATIVE.  Unforgiving servant.  Matthew 18:21-35.

3. PERFECT.  Our triune God.  2 Cor. 1:3; Heb. 2:17; Titus 3:5

D. IMPORTANCE OF SHOWING MERCY.

1. Reveals we are children of God

2. We are chosen to be vessels of mercy and should dispense mercy to others.  Rom. 9:23; Lk. 6:36.

E. THE BLESSING OF MERCY.

1. Now.

2. Future.
