Intro
A. LIMITED ATONEMENT (or particular redemption; definite atonement).
1. What did Christ accomplish on the cross? NATURE OF THE ATONEMENT,
2. For whom did Christ die? EXTENT OF THE ATONEMENT.
A. THE NATURE OF THE ATONEMENT.
1) A successful atonement.
a) Jn. 1:29.
b) Jn. 6:39.
c) 12:32.
d) Jn. 12:47.
2) Why did Jesus die on the cross? To save or make salvation possible? The INTENT of the atonement determined the EXTENT of the atonement.
a) SUBSTITUTE - He actually took the place of sinners.
b) SACRIFICE - He actually bore ALL their sins and their penalty.
c) SATISFACTION - He fully satisfied the wrath of God.
C. THE EXTENT OF THE ATONEMENT.
1) A specific atonement.

2) An international atonement.

The meaning of kosmos = “world.”
1- entire universe, Jn. 1:10
2- physical earth, Jn. 13:1
3- world system, Jn. 12:31
4- unbelievers, Jn. 15:18
5- large group, Jn. 12:19
6- non-elect, Jn. 17:9
7- Jews and Gentiles, Jn. 6:33
