PAUL’S STRUGGLE (v. 1).
In the past.
In the present.

Application:

THEIR ENCOURAGEMENT (v. 2).
The object is the heart.
The previous testimony of their love.

Application:

III. ENCOURAGEMENT LEADS TO ASSURANCE (v. 2b).

The means to a full assurance of understanding.
The struggle with doubts.

FULL ASSURANCE LEADS TO TRUE KNOWLEDGE (v. 2c).

Epignosis – a full and deeper knowledge of Christ, experiential. Knowledge combined with faith and obedience.

CHRIST = SUM OF ALL WISDOM AND KNOWLEDGE (v. 3).
All wisdom and knowledge are found in Christ.
This wisdom is infinitely valuable.
This wisdom must be sought.
