Intro

A. THE INSPIRATION OF SCRIPTURE (Matthew 1:22).

1. Isaiah 7:14 was spoken BY the Lord THROUGH the prophet.    

2. All Scripture is inspired by God.   2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:21.

B. THE FULFILLMENT OF PROPHECY (Matthew 1:22-23).  

 

1. “All this took place to fulfill .  .  .” (Matthew 1:22).   

2. Isaiah 7:14 

a. Context.   

b. “virgin” 

 

 

C. THE MEANING OF IMMANUEL.

1. The deity of Christ affirmed.   This “Son” is “God with us.”

a.  Isaiah 8:8 – Immanuel owns the land.

 

b. Isaiah 9:6 – “mighty God”  

 

2. The presence of God affirmed.    

 

a. This is a theme in Matthew.   Matthew 18:20; 28:20.

 

b. What does it mean that “God is with us”?  

 

c. The Immanuel theme in Scripture.

D.  THE BETROTHAL CONSUMMATED (Matthew 1:24-25).

1. Joseph’s obedience (Matthew 1:24).

2. No sexual relations until after the birth of Jesus.
