Salt and light

Intro

A. THE SALT OF THE EARTH (Matthew 5:13). 

1. The uses of salt.    

a. add flavor to food.  Job 6:6; Col. 4:6.  

b. preservation.   Numb. 18:19; 2 Chron. 13:5.

c. purification.   Lev. 2:13; Ezek. 43:24; Ex. 30:35.

2. How do Christians function as salt.

a. by holy living and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom.

b. promoting godly values.    Prov. 14:34. 

B.  BAD SALT AS A PICTURE OF AN APOSTATE.

3. Tasteless salt.
4. Not the saved who loses salvation.     1 Jn. 3:9; 2:19
5. Good for nothing.  Lk. 14:34-35
6. trampled under foot by men.
