The Kingdoms in Trouble
Intro
- ISRAEL IN TROUBLE (8:7-15).
- Elisha goes to Damascus (vv. 7-9).
- Elisha’s message to Hazael (vv. 10-13).
1) What kind of answer did Elisha give to Hazael?
2) Elisha’s information is more than God’s foreknowledge of events.
3) Who stares at whom? (v. 11).
4) Hazael’s response to the message (v. 13).
- Elisha’s response to God’s judgment (vv. 11-12).
- Hazael’s assassination of Ben-Hadad (vv. 14-15).
- JUDAH IN TROUBLE (8:16-29).
- The kingdom of Judah is brought into focus after a lengthy emphasis on the life and ministry of Elisha to Israel. We last heard of Jehoram king of Judah in 1 Kings 22:50. His reign was put on hold but the book of his life is now opened.
- Jehoram marries the daughter of Ahab (v. 18).
- Jehoram’s other vices. 2 Chron. 21:1-4, 10-15.
- Ahaziah became king of Judah and did evil (2 Kings 8:25-29). He was counseled by Athaliah, his wicked mother (2 Chron. 22:3).
