2 Kings 4:1-7
The Widow’s Oil Well
INTRO
THE WIDOW’S WORRIES (4:1).
Death of her husband.
Destitution of her family.
Devotion of her husband.
Her cry of lament.
THE PROPHET’S PROVISION (4:2-7).
The widow’s jar of oil.
The prophet’s instructions:
1) “Borrow empty vessels, lots of them.”
2) “Close the door and pour.”
The marvelous provision: when the vessels ran out, so did the oil.
III. TRUTHS TO PONDER:
1) The miracle required that the widow be responsibly involved.
a) In a real sense the degree of her blessing was tied to the degree of her obedience.
b) This test of her obedience required her to have faith in something that was humanly speaking impossible.
c) Application – Are you gathering your pots?
2) God delights in taking our small resources and multiplying them for His glory.
3) God’s provision should lead to praise and thanksgiving.
