The Wonders of Wisdom
INTRO
- LIVING OUT WISDOM
- Wisdom in living by the covenant (9:1-9).
- Imperfect wisdom (9:10-14, 26-28).
- Wisdom’s works and wealth (9:20-22; 10:14-29).
1) Solomon’s work force (9:20-22). Gentiles were the forced laborers (v. 20-21), and Israelites were the leaders (v. 22).
2) Solomon’s wealth (10:14-29).
- Wisdom’s priorities (9:15-19).
The temple first, (see faithful worship in v. 25), then his own house (“the house of the forest of Lebanon” – palace, govt building, etc), then his defenses:
Millo, a fortress on wall of city; wall of Jerusalem; Hazor, Megiddo, Gezer – fortresses on the North and Western borders of the land; other fortified cities, storage cities, military outposts, etc.
The godly principle is the same as Matt. 6:33.
- Wisdom meets us where we live.
We ALL need wisdom and we need it everyday. Prov. 8:11 “For wisdom is better than jewels; And all desirable things can not compare with her. Prov. 16:16 How much better it is to get wisdom than gold! And to get understanding is to be chosen above silver.
- SEEKING OUT WISDOM
- The breadth of Solomon’s wisdom (1 Kings 10:23-25; 4:29-34).
- The queen of Sheba’s visit (1 Kings 10:1-13).
1) Her travel (v. 1).
2) Her tests (vv. 1-3).
3) Her testimony (vv. 4-9).
4) Her talents (v. 10).
- Lessons from the queen.
We haven’t seen the last of the Queen of Sheba: Christ tells us that Matt. 12:42 “The Queen of the South shall rise up with this generation at the judgment and shall condemn it, because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and behold, something greater than Solomon is here.”
