Intro
A. CHRIST’S USE OF “FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE” (John 16:25).
1) The word here for “figurative language” is used 5 times in NT and 4 times in John, 3 times in this passage and once in John. 10:6.
2) WHY use figurative language?
a) Parables to unbelievers. John 13;10-15.
b) Figurative language for believers.
B. AN HOUR IS COMING FOR PLAIN TALK (John 16:25-28).
1) “An hour is coming”.
2) Plain truth of the Father (John 16:25).
3) Access through the Son to the Father (John 16:26-27).
4) Jesus summarizes His ministry (John 16: 28).
a) “I came forth from the Father” –
b) “I have come into the world” –
c) “I am leaving the world again” -
d) “I am going to the Father” -
C. THE DISCIPLES THINK THEY UNDERSTAND (John 16:29-31).
