Intro

1) Pilate’s authority comes from God.  Rom. 13:1

2) Civil leaders are accountable to God.    Rom. 13:4

3) Pilate is personally guilty of sin before God.

A. PRINCIPLES OF CHURCH STATE RELATIONS.

1) Two kingdoms (Luke 20:25).

2) Historical attempts to reconcile this relationship.

3) Believers are to have a prophetic voice to government leaders.

B. THE BELIEVER’S RESPONSIBILITY TO CAESAR.

1) Pray for our leaders. 1Tim. 2:1

2) Obey our leaders.   Rom. 13:1-2

When is civil disobedience biblical?

3) Participate.

a) Christ commands “Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar’s” ( 22:21).

b) Our Caesar (Constitution) requires our participation.

c) Use the legal system to protect religious liberties.

4) Prophetic voice of the church.   What values to do we seek to advance?

a) 14:34

b) Moral law of God.    2:14-15

5) Prepare for persecution.  2 Tim. 3:12.
