The Law against Murder
Intro
A. THE LAW TO THE ANCIENTS (Matthew 5:21).
- “You have heard that the ancients were told” –
- the 6th commandment – “You shall not commit murder.”
- “Whoever commits murder shall be liable to the court.”
- Two errors.
a. the oral law limited this sin to just the outward action of murder.
b. they limit punishment to the courts of men.
B. THE LAW FROM CHRIST (Matthew 5:22).
- “But I say to you.”
- The law addresses the heart.
a. attitude of anger
b. words of anger.
(1) RACA –
(2) FOOL –
- The punishment from man and God.
C. APPLICATIONS OF THE LAW (Matthew 5:23-26).
- Reconciliation before worship (Matthew 5:23-24).
- Reconciliation before jail (Matthew 5:25-26).
