Intro
Titus, Crete, Purpose of the letter
A. FOR THE GRACE OF GOD HAS APPEARED (Titus 2:11).
1. “For” – what proceeds is the cause of what precedes.
2. Grace has appeared.
a. The gospel – Titus 1:3.
b. Christ – John 1:14, 17-18; 2 Timothy 1:9-10. Grace is a person.
c. The work of grace – regeneration, salvation, justification, sanctification.
B. TRAINING US (Titus 2:12).
1. Training – disciplined instruction, like a child.
2. Negative and positive training.
3. Renounce – completely disown and reject.
4. Live godly lives.
5. “the goodness and loving kindness” of God’s grace.
C. WAITING FOR OUR BLESSED HOPE (Titus 2:13).
1. Not passive – 1 Peter 1:13; Hebrews 12:1; 2 Peter 3:11-12.
2. Our blessed hope.
a. Christ Himself.
b. The fulfillment of all God’s promises.
c. His glory.
D. REDEEMED (Titus 2:14).
1. Matthew 20:28.
2. To pay for the liberation of a captive.
3. Redeemed from what?
E. ZEALOUS FOR GOOD WORKS.
1. Ephesians 2:10.
2. What makes a good work good?
3. Practical application.
