Ahab: Deceived and Dead
INTRO
- AHAB DECEIVED (22:1-28).
1) SOLICITS REINFORCEMENTS (VV. 1-4).
2) OPPOSITION TO CONSULTING THE LORD THROUGH TRUE PROPHETS (VV. 5-12).
- a) Who were these 400 prophets?
- b) What was their message?
(1) words (vv. 6, 12).
(2) actions (v. 11).
3) THE MINISTRY OF MICAIAH (VV. 13-23).
- a) Who is this prophet?
(1) Hated by Ahab (v. 8).
(2) Held in confinement (vv. 26-27).
- b) What was his message?
(1) As the Lord lives, what the Lord says to me, that I shall speak (14).
(2) prophetic sarcasm (v. 15).
(3) God’s word: death and defeat for Ahab (v. 17).
(4) A deceiving spirit controls Ahab’s prophets (vv. 19-23).
(5) Micaiah’s defense and imprisonment (vv. 24-28).
(6) Implications.
* God did not lie to or deceive Ahab.
** God is sovereign over the demons.

- AHAB’S DEATH (22:29-40).
1) HIS VAIN DISGUISE (VV. 29-35).
2) AHAB’S DEATH AND DEFEAT (VV. 36-38).
3) GOD’S CONTROL OF THE BATTLE:
- a) God’s command to the spirit, “You are to entice him and also prevail” (v. 22).
- b) the plan of the king of Aram – “Fight . . . with the king of Israel alone.” (v. 31).
- c) the cry of Jehoshaphat (v. 32). Cf. 2 Chron. 18:31
- d) The “random” arrow (v. 34).
- e) Ahab’s blood licked up by dogs according to God’s word (vv. 37-38).
