Christ before Pilate
Intro
A. THE ROMAN RULE OVER JUDEA
1) Pompey captures Jerusalem in 64 B.C. TAXES.
2) Herod the Great died in 4 BC.
3) Rome began to rule over Judea by prefects in AD 6.
B. PONTIUS PILATE
1) Pilate the man.
2) Headquarters at Herod the Great’s palace in Caesarea.
3) Praetorium.
C. THE INITIAL MEETING WITH PILATE (John 18:28-32).
1) Early morning.
2) Jews did not enter the Praetorium.
3) Pilate asks for the charges against Jesus (John 18:29).
4) The initial exchange (John 18:30-32).
a) The Jewish leaders response (v. 30).
b) Pilate refuses to hear the case (v. 31).
c) The Jews then show their intentions that they want Jesus dead (v. 31).
d) Roman execution fulfills Jesus’ prophecy concerning His death (v. 32).
