The Kingdom of Christ
Intro
A. PILATE INTERROGATES JESUS (John 18:33-35).
1) The question: “Are You the King of the Jews?” (v. 33).
2) The answer: Jesus inquires as to Pilate’s interest (v. 34).
3) The response: Pilate responds indignantly (v. 35).
B. JESUS EXPLAINS HIS KINGDOM (John 18:36-37).
1) The word “kingdom” [basileia] has primary overtones of “reign”, not territory.
2) Jesus describes His kingdom (vv. 36-37).
a) Not an earthly kingdom.
b) Not a military kingdom.
c) It is a spiritual kingdom.
d) It is a present kingdom.
e) Not inactive in the world.
3) Jesus describes His kingship (v. 37).
4) Jesus describes the citizens of His kingdom (v. 37).
5) Pilate’s response (John 18:38).
