Exhortations to Elders
Intro
A. WHAT ARE ELDERS?
1. Elders (Acts 20:17) - plural.
2. Overseers (Acts 20:28a) -
3. Shepherds (Acts 20:28b) -
4. Appointed by the Holy Spirit (Acts 20:28).
B. GUARD YOURSELF (Acts 20:28) - Exhortation #1
1. The exhortation: “Be on guard” -
2. The need for the exhortation.
a. Elders are men with sin natures like everyone else.
b. They will give an account. Heb. 13:17
c. Elders cannot care for others if they neglect their own souls.
d. Satan has his eye upon them.
C. GUARD THE FLOCK (Acts 20:28-30) - Exhortation #2
1. Who is the flock?
a. “flock” -
b. church of God -
c. purchased with His own blood -
d. disciples (Acts 20:30) - learner, pupil. Followers of Jesus.
2. Their enemies.
a. Savage wolves will come in -
b. Perverse men from within.
c. False doctrine and sensual living.
