A. CROSSING THE JORDAN IS A TYPE OF SALVATION

 

1. The ark of the covenant is a type of Christ.

2. Passing safely through the judgment waters.

 

B. THEIR NEED OF CIRCUMCISION (5:1-9). 

1. Why were they not circumcised?    

2. Why circumcise?   

 

C. THE SYMBOL OF CIRCUMCISION. 

1. Physical circumcision was to symbolize spiritual circumcision.

2. Verses on spiritual circumcision.   Deut. 10:16; Jer. 4:4; 9:26; Deut. 30:6.

D. APPLICATION TO THE CHURCH.   

1. Baptism.  

2. Spiritual circumcision.   

a. All believers have been circumcised of heart.  Col. 2:11; Rom. 2:29

b. What does this mean?    

(1) Our POSITION in Christ.  Rom. 6:2, 6; Gal. 5:24; Eph. 2:5-6

(2) Our CONDITION in Christ.  Gal. 5:17; 1 Pet. 2:11; 1 Jn. 3:2
