The Angel of the LORD

A. THE PERSON OF THE ANGEL OF THE LORD.
1. The Angel of the LORD is identified as Yahweh.
a) Abraham - Gen. 22:15-16.
b) Gideon - Judg. 6:11, 14, 16, 20, 23.
2. The Angel of the LORD is identified as God.
a) Hagar - Gen. 16:7-13.
b) Jacob - Gen. 31:11-13.
c) Gideon - Judges 6:20-21
3. The Angel of the LORD is distinct from the LORD. Zech. 1:12-13.
4. The Angel of the LORD receives worship. Judg. 6:12-24.
5. The Angel of the LORD is the same as the Son of God (Ps. 2:7).
B. THE WORKS OF THE ANGEL OF THE LORD.
1. Guides as a shepherd. Gen. 48:15-16. Cf. 2 Tim. 4:18; Jn. 10:1-28; 17:12.
2. Judges His enemies. 2 Kings 19:35. Cf. Mt. 25:46.
3. Does miracles. Judg. 6:21.
4. He communicates grace. Gen. 21:17; 22:11; 48:16; Judg. 6:21-22. Cf. Jn. 1:14.
5. He intercedes for God’s people. Zech. 1:12-13; 3:1-2. Cf. Heb. 7:25; Lk. 22:31-32.
