Intro
A. ARRIVAL OF JESUS (Matthew 3:13).
B. BAPTISM OF JESUS (Matthew 3:14-15).
1. John resisted baptizing Jesus (Matthew 3:14).
2. Jesus insisted on John’s baptism “to fulfill all righteousness” (Matthew 3:15).
a. Majority view: Jesus is identifying with His people in preparation of His ministry to “save His people from their sins” (Matthew 1:21).
b. Jesus is endorsing John’s ministry and shows unity with it by bringing it to fulfillment.
c. Jesus’ baptism “fulfills all righteousness” as He enters into His high priestly ministry.
C. ANOINTING OF JESUS (Matthew 3:16).
1. The Spirit of God descends as a dove
2. Symbolism of a dove.
3. Significance of the anointing of Jesus with the Holy Spirit.
D. ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE FATHER ABOUT JESUS (Matthew 3:17).
1. God speaks, “voice out of the heavens.”
2. “This is My beloved Son”. Ps. 2:7
3. The Son is beloved and well pleasing to the Father. Isa. 42:1

1. The honor given to baptism.
