The Father’s glory
Intro
A. GOD’S CHIEF END IS HIS OWN GLORY.
1) The glory of God is the summum bonum in the universe.
2) God manifests His glory in creation.
a) All creation is for His glory. Rom. 11:36; Col. 1:16.
b) God created the world to display His glory. Ps. 19:1.
3) God manifests His glory in redemption.
a) In the incarnation. John 1:14.
b) In the death and resurrection of Jesus. John 12:23; Heb. 2:9.
c) By the miracles of Christ and His apostles. John 11:4
d) In our salvation. Eph. 1:4-6; 2Cor. 3:18; Phil. 3:21.
B. THE SAINTS’ CHIEF END IS GOD’S GLORY.
1) Westminster catechism, “What is the chief end of man?” “To glorify God and enjoy Him forever.” 1 Cor. 10:31; Ps. 37:4; 73:25.
2) The heart of the redeemed share this seeking of God’s glory - Ps. 86:12; 115:1; 42:1.
3) Nothing else can satisfy the soul more than enjoying the glory of God.
4) How do we glorify God?
a) When we magnify Him in the eyes of others. Ps. 50:23.
b) When we reflect His glory. Mt. 5:16; Jn. 15:8.
