The Lowly King

Intro

 

A. THE MAGI AND THE KING OF THE JEWS (Matthew 2:2).

 

1. The OT presented two views of the coming Messianic King:

a)  A king who sets up a physical, earthly kingdom. Isaiah 9:6-7; Psalm 110

b) humble, suffering servant.    Zechariah. 9:9; Isaiah 53

2. The MAGI’S question. Matthew 2:2     

B. THE HUMBLE BIRTH OF THE KING OF GLORY.

1. Born of humble parents.   Matthew 13:55

2. Not born in the Capital City but in Bethlehem.  Micah 5:2

3. Not born in a palace.   Luke 2:7

4. No royal crib.   Luke 2:7

5. No royal baby clothes.  Luke 2:7

6. No royal celebration.       Luke 2:9-12

7. His stated mission.   Matthew 1:21

C.  THE HUMBLE MINISTRY OF THE KING OF GLORY.

1. His predecessor was humble.  Mark 1:6  

2. His teaching was humble.   

a. Beatitudes were to teach meekness, humility, purity, peace-makers.

b.  Greatness in His kingdom.   Mark 10:42-45 

3. He was born to suffer and die.    

 

Conclusion

 

The incarnation is to be imitated.  Phillipians 2:5-11
